Meta Now Charges Australian Businesses $76.99 a Month to Reach a Human

Meta has launched Meta One in Australia, a tiered subscription that puts human support behind a $76.99 a month paywall. Verification, impersonation protection and priority support are now upsells. The real lesson is the risk of parking your business on a platform that can suspend you and then sell you the way to complain.

The Take: Meta has turned customer support into a subscription. The human being who used to be free now starts at $76.99 a month. The price is not the real story. The real story is how much of your business you have parked on a platform that can suspend you first and sell you the phone number to complain second.

The tiers: On Wednesday Meta launched Meta One in Australia, a tiered subscription across Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp. Business plans open at $22.99 a month for a verification badge, impersonation protection and access to its AI Meta Business Agent. A trained human does not appear until the Advanced tier at $76.99 a month, which adds dedicated agents, priority queue placement and a live phone call. Above that sit Expert from $229 a month and Max from $769 a month.

The trap: Meta One only helps accounts that are active and in good standing. Sit with the order of that. The businesses most desperate for a human are the ones already wrongly suspended. The subscription cannot reach them. Australian small businesses have been flooding the Small Business Ombudsman with exactly those disputes.

What an Australian business now pays Meta before a trained human will look at its case instead of a bot

Between the lines: Meta is repricing what used to be table stakes. Support, verification and protection from impersonation are now upsells. The cheap AI agent it bundles is the tier it actually wants you on. The message to Australian businesses is blunt. Your dependence is the product.

For Australian operators: Treat Meta reach as rented, not owned. Build and keep an email or SMS list that a moderation queue cannot switch off, so a suspension is a setback rather than a shutdown. If you run real ad or commerce volume through Meta, price the Advanced tier in as insurance rather than a luxury. Keep your own copies of your audience data and best performing creative off the platform, because you cannot run a business from an account you cannot open. The tier you choose is really a bet on how much of your revenue rides on a single login.
