What it means

If you're in finance, health, professional services or B2B tech, nearly half your target queries now have an AI-generated answer sitting above the organic results. The traffic you've been getting from position 1-3 rankings is eroding faster than most businesses realise. This isn't a future risk. It's happening now.

What to do

Run a query audit on your top 20 organic keywords. Check which trigger AI Overviews.
For queries with AI Overviews, check if your content gets cited (that's your new "position zero").
Restructure target pages with clear, cited claims and FAQ schema to earn citations.
For high-intent commercial queries where AI Overviews dominate, shift budget toward paid search or bottom-funnel content.
