Showpo Cut Its Homepage Load Time by 90%. The Platform Was the Problem.

Australian fashion retailer Showpo has replatformed from Salesforce Commerce Cloud to a headless Shopify Hydrogen storefront and cut homepage load times by 90%. Site speed is a conversion lever most retailers are still ignoring.

A 90% improvement is not an optimisation. It is an admission of how much money the old platform was quietly costing.

Showpo has replatformed to Shopify and cut its homepage load times by 90%. The Australian fashion retailer moved off Salesforce Commerce Cloud onto a headless Shopify Hydrogen storefront, now serving customers across six global markets.

The number worth sitting with is the 90%. Not because the engineering is clever, though it is, but because it means the old site was carrying a decade of accumulated weight that every single customer paid for on every single visit. Slow pages are not a technical problem. They are a commercial one.

Inside Retail reports the migration was driven by exactly that logic. Showpo built its brand on social and mobile-first shoppers, and mobile shoppers are the least patient customers on earth. Every second of load time on a phone is a tax on revenue.

The replatforming trend is broader than one retailer. Mid-market Australian ecommerce has been drifting toward Shopify for years, and the headless Hydrogen approach lets larger brands keep custom front-end experiences while offloading the infrastructure.

Why it matters

Site speed is the most under-priced conversion lever in Australian retail. Across the Australian businesses we score, conversion efficiency consistently lags acquisition. Businesses pay to get people to the shopfront and then make them wait at the door.

Google's own data has long shown bounce probability climbing steeply with every added second of mobile load time. If your homepage takes four seconds and your competitor's takes one, you are handing them your paid traffic.

90%

The reduction in homepage load time Showpo achieved by moving from Salesforce Commerce Cloud to a headless Shopify Hydrogen storefront.

What to do about it

Run your own numbers first. Pull mobile load times for your top 10 landing pages in PageSpeed Insights or your Core Web Vitals report. If LCP is over 2.5 seconds, you have a revenue problem, not an IT ticket.

Cost the delay in dollars. Take your monthly mobile sessions, your conversion rate and your average order value, then model what a one-second improvement is worth. That number is your business case.

Check what you are paying for. Legacy enterprise commerce licences often cost multiples of modern alternatives while delivering slower experiences. Platform loyalty is not a strategy.

Do not replatform for the badge. Showpo's result came from a considered rebuild with a clear performance target. A rushed migration with the same bloated theme and app stack will reproduce the same slow site on new infrastructure.

Watch the follow-through. The interesting data point will be Showpo's conversion and revenue movement over the next two quarters, because that is where a 90% speed gain either shows up or it does not.

Speed is the cheapest growth channel most retailers have not bought yet.
