Google has rolled its generative AI performance reports out to every website worldwide, giving marketers their first view of how often pages appear inside AI Overviews and AI Mode. The reports show impressions but not clicks, so half the funnel stays dark. Here is how to read them without being flattered.
The Take: Google has switched on generative AI performance reports for every website in the world. For the first time you can see how often your pages appear inside AI Overviews, AI Mode and AI features in Discover. It is real visibility into the surface that has been quietly taking your clicks, and it is deliberately half a view.
Zoom out: Search Engine Journal reports Google rolled the reports out to all websites worldwide in late August, after a phased launch that began in June. Google's own Search Central blog says the reports break impressions inside generative AI features down by page, country and date. The catch sits in what is missing. The reports show impressions, not clicks, so you can see when AI put you in front of someone but not whether it sent them anywhere.
Who wins: The operators who move first get a baseline before their rivals do. Knowing which of your pages the AI cites, and for which countries, tells you what content the answer engines trust. That is a map of where to double down and where you are invisible.
What Google's new AI reports show. Clicks from AI surfaces are still not broken out, so half the funnel stays dark
What to watch: Impressions without clicks is a vanity number if you stop there. Rising AI impressions next to flat traffic is the shape of being summarised, not visited. Read the two together and against your normal search performance, or the report will flatter you.
