Klaviyo Launches RCS Messaging for Ecommerce

What changed

Klaviyo has made RCS (Rich Communication Services) business messaging generally available
RCS lets you send interactive branded messages with carousels, suggested replies and rich media within existing SMS flows
Klaviyo now supports up to five email addresses per profile
New automatic send time optimisation sends at each subscriber's peak engagement window

What it means

RCS is what SMS should have been. Instead of plain text with a link, you can send product carousels, booking confirmations with interactive buttons and branded media. Open rates on RCS are running 2-3x higher than SMS in early data. The multi-email profile support solves a long-standing problem for businesses whose customers use different emails for work and personal.

What to do

If you're on Klaviyo, check your plan for RCS access.
Start with transactional flows (order confirmation, shipping updates) where rich media adds clear value.
Don't blast RCS for promotional campaigns until you've tested deliverability in AU. Australian telcos are still rolling out business RCS at different speeds.
