Meta will spend your money and post as your brand. Meet Muse.

Meta's new Muse agent can spend money and publish posts for small businesses across Instagram, Shopify, Stripe and more. It launched the same week Meta was disputing a claim the agent read a user's private messages. Australian operators should keep human approval on anything that spends or publishes.

The Take: Meta now sells small businesses an AI agent that can spend money and publish posts in their name. That is not a simple productivity upgrade. It is the platform that already owns your ad account offering to run the rest of your storefront, and it landed the same week Meta was disputing a claim that the agent read a user's private messages.

The handover: Muse for Small Business connects to Instagram, Facebook, Shopify, Stripe, Intuit QuickBooks, Asana, Box, Canva and Zoom, then acts across them, Retail Dive reported. It can read your branding, your accounts and your customer records. It can also make purchases or publish on your behalf unless you force it to pause for human approval. The pitch is a staff member who never sleeps. The reality is a set of keys to the parts of the business you used to keep separate.

What it costs: The agent is free to start and then runs on paid tiers that climb with usage. Meta says the agent uses single-use card numbers for new merchants and does not feed its advertising systems, which is a promise worth keeping a copy of.

The catch: Amazon has already demanded Meta remove its store from Muse, echoing Amazon's earlier fight with Perplexity over an agent that shopped on its own. An agent that buys and posts for you is only as good as its judgment on the day it gets something wrong, and the week it launched was not a quiet one for trust.

For Australian operators: Australian small businesses lean on Meta harder than almost any other channel, so an agent that reaches into your books and your posts is a dependency decision, not a toggle. Keep human approval on anything that spends or publishes. Do not connect your payment or accounting tools until you have tested it on low-stakes jobs. Remember the data question too: Meta says the agent does not train its ad systems on your customers, so get that in writing for your own records before you hand anything over. Start it on the dull work like drafting and scheduling, then keep it well away from your card until it has earned the reach. Convenience from the company that already sets your ad prices is never only convenience.
