Every industry average we've measured lands in the Medium band on our own four-band scale (Low 0 to 49, Medium 50 to 69, High 70 to 84, Very High 85 and above). No industry average reaches Very High. Individual standout businesses regularly do. That gap between the industry average and the ceiling is where most of the opportunity sits.

How this is measured

How we set these bands

Unlike the graded-range pages in this cluster, this page reports real measured data. Every business behind these averages was individually scored across six marketing dimensions using connected platform data where available and hand-assessed evidence where it wasn't. The industry average is the mean composite score of every scored business in that industry. Full methodology at How We Score.

Our take

Our take

The industry average was never the target. It's the floor most competitors haven't cleared yet. Somebody in every industry we've measured is already scoring 15 to 20 points clear of their own category average, using data every other business in that category could also be looking at.

If your industry average looks low, that's not bad news. It's the size of the gap you can open before anyone else in your category even notices there's a race on.

Frequently asked

It depends on the industry. Industry averages range from 49.3 to 74.5 out of 100 across the 70 industries we score, with a national average of 63.7. The honest comparison is your score against your specific industry's average, not a universal number.
